THE BETSCHER FAMILY
"In 1848 Michael Betscher and his wife Mary Ann Betscher, nee Venis, left their home in Ringsheim, Baden, Germany, and came to America with their family of seven grown children, five sons and two daughters. They came to avoid compulsory training for their five sons who were of military age. They came to the vicinity of Cincinnati and lived there the balance of their lives. Mary Ann Venis Betscher died at the age of 92 years at the home of her youngest daughter, Mary Heis. She is buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery on Dry Ridge Road in Colerain Township. Michael Betscher died of exhaustion when he lost his way in the woods while going from the home of his son Amand on Harrison Pike to the home of his daughter Magdalena on Snow Hill north of Harrison, Ohio. He is buried in the cemetery of St. James Catholic Church at White Oak on Burnt Schoolhouse Road in Colerain Township. "

Occupation:
Lynn Arnold's Betscher Family Newsletter, Vol I, No. III: The occupation of both Michael and his father, Franz Joseph, is listed as a "Hafnermeister", a man who makes earthen ware. His grandfather's occupation is listed as "hafner". Michael's brother Johann Georg's occupation was also listed as "hafnermeister". The occupation translation is from a German third cousin of Lynn Arnold who lives about 60 kilometers (40 miles) from Ringsheim.

According to the "Betscher Blue Book", Michael Betscher died while walking from Amand Betscher's place on Harrison Pike and Morgan Road to his daughter Magdalena's place on Snow Hill, Franklin County, Indiana. He is buried in the cemetery of the Catholic church at White Oak on Burnt Schoolhouse Road in Colerain Township. (This is St. James Church, White Oak, Hamilton County.)

"18 Nov 1816 At 6 hours Michael Betscher legitimate single son of the deceased Joseph Betscher, citizen and hafnermeister from here and Maria Anna Scharbach, his wife, AND Maria Anna Venis, legitimate single daughter of the deceased Johannes Venis, citizen and farmer from here, and Ursula Hofstetter."
