THE BETSCHER FAMILY
"In 1848 Michael Betscher and his wife Mary Ann Betscher, nee Venis, left their home in Ringsheim, Baden, Germany, and came to America with their family of seven grown children, five sons and two daughters. They came to avoid compulsory training for their five sons who were of military age. They came to the vicinity of Cincinnati and lived there the balance of their lives. Mary Ann Venis Betscher died at the age of 92 years at the home of her youngest daughter, Mary Heis. She is buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery on Dry Ridge Road in Colerain Township. Michael Betscher died of exhaustion when he lost his way in the woods while going from the home of his son Amand on Harrison Pike to the home of his daughter Magdalena on Snow Hill north of Harrison, Ohio. He is buried in the cemetery of St. James Catholic Church at White Oak on Burnt Schoolhouse Road in Colerain Township. "
